Neyyattinkara Sree Krishna Swami Temple, Trivandrum, also worshipped as "South Guruvayur of Kerala" located in the town "Neyyattinkara", approximately 25 KM from Trivandrum and about an hour travel. Presiding deity is Unnikrishnan, holding Butter in His Bothe Hands ( Balakrishnan). The temple was built by King Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma of Travancore in 1755. Once when the King was was followed by his enemies. By noticing this, some fishermen there in that place took the king on their boat, crossed "River Neyyar". There the king was seeking for a safe place to hide himself. At that time a cow shepherd  boy over there showed the king a "Hollow Trunk of a Huge Jack Tree" nearby and asked him to hide himself.

The king heeded himself and got saved from his enemies. Later, the king tried to identity of the cow shepherd boy, and came to know through his astrologers that the boy was none other than Lord Krishna himself. The king decided to build a temple for Lord Krishna, as a mark of gratitude, near the jack tree, which was popularly worshipped as "Ammachi Plavu" (Mother Jack Tree) as it protected the king from his enemies. The remnants of the tree is still preserved there. Neyyattinkara Sree Krishna Swamy Temple is being worshipped as "Guruvayur of South Kerala". The main entrance of the temple, devotees can worship a scene " Geethopathesam", Lord Krishna teaching Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. It is believed that the ghee, made in the Ashram of Sage Aghasthya on the top of the mountain over flowed and became a river of ghee in to the town. Neyyar in Malayalam means “River of Ghee”. Neyathin Kara means “The Banks of Neyyar”. The temple of Lord Krishna is situated on the banks of Neyyar. There is a ghat in to the river from the temple
